Jordan has been a blog friend of mine for several months now. I’m not sure how we found each other on the internet, but we’ve been following and communicating on Twitter for a while. I was super excited about coming across Jordan and her blog, because she lives in Arizona. I’ve been involved in the blogging community since 2004, and it has always seemed that Arizona is slower to pick up on internet outlets like blogs and social media compared with other cities like Chicago, New Jersey and Los Angeles. I can remember hearing about people in other cities coming together and meeting in real life and feeling sad that there weren’t similar gatherings in my area. A few months ago, Jordan emailed me and told me she was interested in getting photos of her and her husband taken for their 2nd anniversary. I was excited to not only get to meet her in person, but to get to take photos of her too!

We met at Papago Park in Tempe and started by walking around the area near the zoo and then moving to the dog park area. It was so hot in Phoenix that day. I believe it was in the high 80s which is really hot for Matt and I since we’re used to the chilly Flagstaff weather. I also sprayed all areas of my body with bug spray except for my hands because I didn’t want to get the greasy formula on my camera. Turns out, I got bit 8 times on my fingers and hands. Those bugs really know how to get to me.

Jordan told me, in their initial questionnaire, that she wanted natural, non-posed photos of her with her husband. I had a great time using different techniques to make them laugh and do normal things around each other.

I love making my couples laugh. It’s so fun to be silly on photo shoots.

The lake area of the shoot was my favorite. We had some goose and duck friends come visit us. As soon as they saw us, they swam over hoping for some bread, I think. I love how, in the above photo, one of the geese is peeking between Jordan’s and Chris’ legs. You don’t notice him at first.

Jordan and Chris both wanted some head shot-like photos of themselves individually for their business cards. So we managed to take a few of them separately during the shoot as well.

There’s something about the above photo I really love. The plane taking off is awesome, but I also love the casual-ness coming from the couple. It just feels real and I love that.
